Empowering Literacy, Leadership & Global Impact: Dr. Dawn Menge’s Inspirational Mission

Dr. Dawn Menge is a name that echoes through classrooms, global conferences and homes where children are learning to dream.

An award-winning author of the celebrated Queen Vernita’s Educational Series and Queen Giggles Kingdom, Dr. Dawn Menge blends storytelling with purpose, teaching not just lessons of language but of empathy, leadership and empowerment.

Through 90+ international literary awards and more than 200 film accolades, her books and advocacy efforts have become a force for global literacy. But it’s not just about the awards, it’s about the lives changed, from children in Ghana to immigrant families discovering the magic of reading in the U.S.

From the Classroom to the World Stage

Dr. Dawn Menge

Dr. Dawn Menge’s journey began in the classroom, where she witnessed firsthand the transformative power of education. She recalls moments when overwhelmed parents, brought to tears, expressed gratitude for the support their children received.

Her work expanded globally when she partnered with Cheerful Hearts, a nonprofit in Ghana combating child labor and trafficking through education. Expecting to meet 30 students, she was greeted by over 100 children, each one radiating joy and hope.

Later, her speech at a Cape Coast conference inspired a woman who had survived childhood captivity to begin writing her story. These experiences reinforced the truth: when we share our voices, we empower others to do the same.

Overcoming Barriers and Balancing Roles

Dr. Dawn Menge faced personal and professional challenges raising a family, working full-time, and pursuing higher education simultaneously. Managing these demands required strategic time management and unwavering commitment.

Unlike many, she did not benefit from a strong support system at home. Still, she built a thriving career and authorship journey that now inspires others.

This dual role of mother and professional taught her how resilience and sacrifice can coexist. She hopes modern support systems, like those her own children now experience with their partners, become the norm.

Leadership that Lifts Others

To Dr. Dawn Menge, leadership isn’t about authority it’s about inclusion. True leadership is earned and must be used to give others a voice. In both her classroom and her business, she invites collaboration, creativity, and ownership. Her philosophy is simple: everyone brings something valuable to the table.

In the literacy world, she uplifts fellow authors through book reviews, promotions, and advice.

“There is room for everyone,” she says, emphasizing that a thriving literary ecosystem supports stronger readers and communities.

A Legacy Rooted in Literacy and Love

Dr. Menge’s legacy intertwines literacy, family, and adventure. Her books are based on real-life experiences, inspired by loved ones like her grandmother Queen Vernita.

During the pandemic, she challenged herself to appear on 100 podcasts and surpassed it. Two moments stand out: a virtual classroom in Paraguay where a boy declared he’d come to the U.S. to hear her read, and a Philadelphia listener who, inspired by her stories, took a second job to give her son shared adventures.

Her books now reach schools in Ghana. Children not only read them but draw illustrations inspired by them proving the stories go far beyond pages.

The Power of Female Mentorship

Female mentors shaped Dr. Menge’s journey. While earning her A.S. in Business with three children, she volunteered in her mother’s classroom even going into labor during one visit.

In special education, she worked under two women who taught her how to mainstream students into society. Today, she mentors new teachers, continuing the cycle of guidance and growth.

In publishing, figures like Linda Radke and Carol Azams supported her transition from teacher to global author. They offered advice, friendship, and opportunities beyond book releases like judging contests, writing reviews, and cross-promoting work internationally.

Challenges Women Still Face Today

Although progress has been made, women still juggle conflicting roles. Dr. Dawn Menge experienced the strain of trying to meet demands at home and work without consistent support.

Today, she sees hope in the way her daughters’ generation is supported by their spouses. But she also warns that political changes may reverse progress in family leave and workplace flexibility.

These issues affect everyone, not just women. Men striving to be active fathers also lose out when systems don’t support family life.

Staying Real: Authentic Advice for Future Women Leaders

Dr. Dawn Menge‘s advice to young women: stay authentic.

Let your passion lead. Speak up even when it’s hard. Be different because it’s your difference that creates impact.

She encourages women to avoid toxic competition. Instead of gossip or jealousy, support each other. “The only person you should compete with is yourself,” she affirms.

Vulnerability + Resilience = Human Connection

Dr. Dawn Menge teaches that vulnerability and resilience are not opposites—they are essentials.

Her “8 Reasons Why We Share Our Experiences” framework outlines how storytelling promotes healing, connection, and clarity.

Key benefits include:

  • Processing emotions
  • Forming deeper bonds
  • Identifying core values
  • Creating collaboration opportunities
  • Enhancing presence
  • Building on past successes
  • Multiplying joy
  • Spreading positive emotion

By sharing openly, we make space for others to heal and grow.

Projects that Transform Lives

Dr. Menge’s impact goes beyond bookshelves

Her Queen Vernita’s Educational Series has helped immigrants learn to read, count, and communicate in their new homes.

She’s won awards like:

  • Presidential Lifetime Achievement Award
  • Best Written Word (Miracle Makers Film)
  • Women of Influence (Success Magazine)

Yet, she says the biggest reward is watching someone gain independence and confidence. She envisions “spreading literacy one child at a time” as her life’s mission and it’s working.

Vision for 2025: Unity, Support and Global Representation

Looking ahead, Dr. Dawn Menge sees a future where women dominate global conversations not through dominance, but through unity.

She believes true impact comes from lifting others, not tearing them down.  “Support each other, be seen, and be heard,” she says. Growth comes from investing in ourselves not compared to others.

In her view, women’s representation in education and publishing is expanding and the future belongs to those who share their voice boldly.

Dr. Dawn Menge’s Final Thoughts

Dr. Dawn Menge reminds us that one person armed with books, purpose, and compassion can impact lives around the globe.

Her story proves that resilience, kindness, and literacy are forces that empower nations and generations.

“The only person you should be competing with is yourself. Expand. Improve. Evolve.”
